SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING IN KENT

SkinPen Microneedling Treatments in Kent

SkinPen has to be one of my favourite treatments. I have been trained in collagen induction therapy (CIT), also known as micro-needling, since 2016, and we have recently brought in SkinPen Microneedling device to the Skin and Beauty Clinic.

Why I love SkinPen?

SkinPen is the only FDA cleared micro-needling procedure, therefore assuring you, you are in safe hands. My passion within beauty therapy has also been safe and effective treatments, with so many new products and machines available on the market, it can get confusing for a consumer, but not with FDA approval and clinical studies backing the device, there is no need to worry. A new sterilised cartridge is used for every treatment, never stored or kept for repeating custom. Here is a bit more information about crown aesthetics https://skinpenuk.com

With SkinPen, I am able to control the depth of the needles to target the area of concern – the skin on the face varies in thickness, so having one set length can cause trauma to areas of thinner skin, with SkinPen it won’t.

The SkinPen is validated to deliver over 1600 microchannel per SECOND by 14 Japanese stainless steel needles…I know what you are thinking…PAIN..nope there is no pain with the treatment as an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area treated.

So why do I want to make this many channels in my skin?

Well this is the beauty, these tiny microchannels induce the natural wound healing cascade…you may be thinking what is that…this is a very simplified answer…to promote tissue remodelling which continues for up to one year post treatment!

More in depth information about the natural wound healing cascade?

Phase 1: Injury and Inflammation (The firefighters) allow for the release of serums containing cytokines and growth factors. This phase starts immediately and last up to 3 days.

Phase 2: Proliferation (The builders) New tissue regenerates from the fibroblasts (responsible for collagen and elastin – the scaffolding of our skin) new capillaries form and the fibroblasts continue to release growth factors, glycoproteins and collagen. This phase starts around day 3 and last up approximately a month.

Phase 3: Tissue remodelling (The decorators) Collagen type 3 is replaced by collagen type 1 (the best type of collagen that has started to decline in your 20s!!) you will experience a skin tightening effect which continues who up to 1 YEAR POST TREATMENT!! This new deposition of fresh collagen is also without scar formation – therefor amazing for treating scars.

Now do you see why I love this treatment? Studies has shown that you are estimated to have 400% more collagen and improved epidermal/dermal thickness 6 months post treatment.

Microneedling vs thermal/chemical sources of rejuvenation

I often wondered this before I trained in microneedling, but a key benefit of microneedling is there is minimal risk but the use of thermal/chemical sources for rejuvenation come with a higher risk as these treatments follow an inflammatory pathway, whereas microneedling follows a non-inflammatory pathway. Natural collagen is induced by your bodies own response to tiny pinpricks without causing trauma to the skin, therefor minimal impact to the skin’s structure, whilst preserving the epidermis.

But you’ve seen some brutal videos of faces covered in blood via microneedling?

This is old, very old and now days the end goal is not to induce a blood bath but to create erythema (redness) and pinprick bleeding. The old fashioned derma roller devices, that couldn’t be tailored to the clients skin thickness would have created this look and the world of microneedling has greatly moved on since then. The reality post treatment these days… your skin will be red and flushed, similar to mild sunburn. You may also experience tightness and sensitivity and some areas of your skin may peel. After 3-5 days there is rarely evidence that microneedling has taken place.

So what does SkinPen actually treat?

A thorough consultation will be done prior to treatment and essential, no consultation = no treatment. If you are a candidate for SkinPen it can treat: Acne scars, Fine lines & wrinkles, melasma/chloasma, vitiligo, and solar lentigines (sun spots).

What areas can you treat?

I can treat most areas of the face and body, and this can all be discussed within the consultation.

What do I have to do before treatment?

Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to the treatment and discontinue use of active skin care products

Aftercare?

You will be given thorough aftercare and products to use post treatment. The microchannels on the skin can remain open for upto 24 hours post treatment and it is key to not apply anything other than the product supplied, this includes make up too. You will want to avoid sweaty exercise, swimming, hot showers and sun exposure for 72 hours post procedure.

So you are thinking ‘why should I trust you to do this procedure?’

We are a fully insured, BABTAC verified salon. Unfortunately, the beauty industry is still unregulated however I have been in the beauty industry since 2005, and am also a registered nurse, BSc (Hons), I am meticulous about hygiene to reduce risks of infection and am knowledgeable about the anatomy and physiology of the skin. I have further studied the integumentary system (the skin) and I am passionate about the industry becoming regulated and hope one day it will be!

Whats included in the treatment and how long?
